Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Warriors Party

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a wide array of characters, and a thrilling plot featuring celestial beings, evil spirits, and sinister influences increasing in power within Dol-Makjar.

Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and revealed the first table of adventurers who will branch out from the primary party to begin their separate journey, apart from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team features the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), Thimble (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan (Robbie Daymond).

The Reason for Division

With 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that maintaining everyone at a single group would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three distinct groups: Warriors, Schemers, and Explorers.

Characteristics of the Warrior Group

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the warrior group is for adventurers who prefer a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven gameplay experience where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Upon first impression, figures such as the reluctant priest the cleric might seem mismatched, but the developments of the third episode make it clear why these specific adventurers are best suited for the Soldiers table.

Reasons to Leave

For one thing, the group understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

An old friend of the deceased character—whose death started the campaign’s events—manipulated the enemy for his personal gain, breaking into the secret base, striking the rogue, and stealing all the enchanted items to sell off.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in the northern region, north of the urban center, with Teor’s brother hot on his heels.

Individual Reasons

Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a nasty place.
  • The strong character and The healer, having resisted his family’s wishes to execute the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • Yet, their position as important members in the influential clan could help the party reach places they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his salvation and will now follow him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that control the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally no longer safe:

  • Thimble and The character are notorious outlaws.
  • The warrior and Wicander turned against the influential house and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
  • Teor is wanted dead by the family.

This leaves them little choice but to travel to Timmony in search of Casimir.

Future Episodes

According to the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will be absent in the upcoming installment, leaving the rest of the players to round up the Explorers and Planners groups.

Fans can expect learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s concluding setup installment, available to watch on next week.
