The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a New Divinity, Labeling it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The anticipation about The Game Awards has been intense, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a daring trailer that included memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This phrasing suggests that the team could be crafting a more action-oriented experience as opposed to another turn-based title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the modern wave of complex computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom given to the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable if you're playing as a distinct build with a unique decision path.

The series is also wonderfully open-ended, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be completed in diverse methods, frequently in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is precisely these elements that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can get ready for another adventure in this esteemed franchise.
